CONDITION

Rudi was diagnosed with bilateral congenital hip dysplasia at a young age. His full sibling was found to have hip dysplasia, so Rudi was screened when he was less than 1 year old and also found to have severe congenital hip dysplasia. He had a right Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) at the age of 5. He has mobility issues and resists certain postures and positions. He has been maintained on several different supplements and NSAID medications.

TREATMENT

Rudi was placed under heavy sedation and deep palpation and ROM of his coxofemoral joints was conducted since this was too painful for him when awake. His left hip was clipped and surgically prepared in a routine fashion. A 20 g 1 ½” needle was used to enter the joint space and ~ 1.5 ml. of Spryng™ with OsteoCushion™ Technology was injected. Rudi recovered uneventfully and was continued on Rimadyl for 5 days post-injection.

RESULTS

Rudi showed improvement very quickly. He was able to comfortably lay on his back which he had never been willing to do previously. He was a “wild child” after the injection to the degree that he started crawling under fences and jumping up worse than ever. He showed a “crazy athletic” side that he had not been able to express. He is currently on Dasuquin Advanced and no longer needs an NSAID in order to maintain a normal comfort level.
